Unit 7 will introduce the concept of the open syllable.
1. This syllable had only one vowel which is the last letter in the syllable. 2. The vowel sound is long. To indicate the long sound the vowel is marked with a macron(-). 3. This syllable can be combined with other syllables to form multisyllabic words. The students will also learn that "y" often works as a vowel in open syllables, saying the long "i" sound at the end of one-syllable words, and the long "e" sound at the end of multisyllabic words. The students will also learn that "y" can be a vowel suffix and that it says the long "e" sound when it is a suffix. They will also learn -ly and -ty suffixes. |
